am...@gmail.com <am...@gmail.com> #14
The same issue here, I hope Google fixes it as soon as possible.
ca...@gmail.com <ca...@gmail.com> #15
Hello, any news on this issue? It has been a while and it still does not work and sadly I could really use it because I am developing on a Nougat emulator and I really really need to check the files it creates. I know I can use a lower API emulator but I have already done some work on that Nougat before I understood that this was happening.
hi...@gmail.com <hi...@gmail.com> #16
I face the same issue. Please fix the issue as soon as possible
da...@gmail.com <da...@gmail.com> #17
Not sure if related to this issue but as of recently none of the tabs in my DDMS are working and emulators are shown as offline in the devices list. And the same problem happens no matter what API level the emulator is running.
Trying to restart ADB with kill-server/start-server or rebooting is not making any difference either.
I'm also not able to restart ADB and debug an app again after having closed the DDMS window without first having to completely restart the emulator.
I'm running:
Android Studio 2.3
Android Emulator 25.3.1
Android SDK Platform-Tools 25.0.3
Android SDK Tools 25.3.1
Can anyone else still use the file explorer on API level 23 emulators or is this an isolated problem? I used to rely on having an "old" API 23 emulator installed to browse the files for my app but now I can't even do that any longer.

Check out the device explorer built into Android Studio's latest release located on the bottom right.
ea...@gmail.com <ea...@gmail.com> #24
I don't know about "bottom right" but I can now see the file system in APIs 21 23 and 24 using the Android Device Monitor. One of my test apps is also running happily in these AVDs. I had to completely re-install Android Studio (2.3.1 April1st Build - on this of alldays!!). No amount of updating would get rid of Gradle problems.
And please could you make the about box so that you can cut and paste the version and build numbers. It is highly frustrating having to type them in when it is clearly displayed there. Grrr.
I now just have to figure out why the shared sd card image, which I use on all three of these AVDs, shows up differently in all three and seems to have multiple file structures on there. How can this be?
And while you are at it, the AVD editor is very poor at saving the settings. It is hit and miss as to whether it manages to save the path to the SD Card. I made sure that all were using the same one by manually editing the config files, and deleting the reappearing "managed" sd card images.

A new tool window has been added to Android Studio 2.4 (currently in canary) that will allow you to interact with API 24 devices and emulators directly in Android Studio. Once you have updated to 2.4 canary, you can find the tool window in View > Tool Windows > Device File Explorer.

I don't usually take updates from anything but stable channels, on most things I use, including operating systems. This is from years of experience in having one bug fixed only to be subjected to several others. I'll just wait for this feature to reach "stable".

Description
If I create a Nexus 7 API 24 (Nougat x86_64) AVD, again accepting all the defaults, then the Android device manager file explorer shows nothing. The panel where the directory tree and files should be is blank. However, at the same time, an adb shell can "ls" and "cd" around the file system just fine. So the file system is there, but the device manager file explorer is just not showing it.
