The error you posted state "activity is cancelled by the user". This implies the request was cancelled somehow during the request.

Description
The blog announcing deprecation of various APIs on Android, ignores all other form factors.
We should add documentation and link to it from that blog on the status of the new official APIs on Wear, Auto/Automotive, TV.
