Thank you for the report, but this is the same as the other bug where we were discussing.
As mentioned in the other bug: if you open your project on Canary 9 then you will need to manually add the Gradle-aware Make to your Android Run configuration.

Description
Since android studio canary 9, Android studio doesn't compile anymore. Clicking on the play button only deploy the application on your device. You can have a non compiling project and it will still deploy on your device the previous compiling version so you don't even know that in fact your project wasn't compiling at all and you are working with an old version...
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. ./gradlew clean
2. click on the play button to build and deploy
3. nothing happened
