Description
The YouTube Live Streaming API documentation currently specifies that only three types of streaming protocols are supported:
These protocols are widely used but do not fully leverage the capabilities of modern real-time communication technologies like WebRTC. WHIP would complement these options by addressing the growing demand for ultra-low latency streaming directly from web-based applications.
Additionally, the API Explorer shows "webrtc" as one of the possible ingestion types. However, attempting to create a live stream with "webrtc" as the ingestion type results in an error, making it unusable for real-world applications. This inconsistency creates confusion and suggests incomplete implementation or support for WebRTC-based ingestion protocols in YouTube Live.
Introducing WHIP support on YouTube Live would position YouTube as a leader in adopting modern streaming standards and would make the platform more accessible to a growing number of WebRTC-based applications.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
