1. Describe the bug or issue that you're seeing.

I am trying to sign an App Bundle for uploading to the Play Store.
But Play Store rejects the bundle as "not signed"!
After months of frustration I have found that
Android Studio said the signing was successful but it actually
failed to sign the app!
The cause seems to be because "debuggable true" was set in build.gradle.
But instead of telling me what was wrong, it actually claimed success!

2. Attach log files from Android Studio - DONE

3. If you know what they are, write the steps to reproduce:

   3A. git clone https://github.com/google/synthmark.git
   3B. git reset --hard 927dbef69da5f187741932f7dc3edc8847c0df2e
   3C. Open the synthmark/android folder in Android Studio
   3D. Select "Build >> Generate Signed App Bundle / APK..."
   3E. Follow the wizard to sign the "release" app bundle using your upload key.

Note that a dialog will appear saying that "Generate Signed Bundle" was "successful".

But it is not really signed!

    $ keytool  -printcert -jarfile {pathto}/synthmark/android/app/release/app-release.aab 
    Not a signed jar file

Now remove the
        buildTypes { release { debuggable true } }
from synthmark/android/app/build.gradle
and try again. This time you will get a signed bundle.
