Description
Dear Google Team,
I would like to seek clarification on some aspects of the HDR-related requirements mentioned in the Android15 Compatibility Definition Document (CDD). Specifically, I have the following questions:
Regarding the term "handling" in 5.1.7. Video Codecs [C-2-1]: The requirement states: "[C-2-1] MUST support HDR static metadata parsing and handling." Could you clarify what specific actions or operations are included in "handling" in this context?
Regarding the requirement in 5.3.5 H.265 (HEVC) [C-3-2]: The requirement states: "[C-3-2] Device implementations MUST properly display HDR content on the device screen or on a standard video output port (e.g., HDMI)." Does this mean the SoC (device) is required to handle all HDR processing before sending the final 10-bit pixel data to the display? Alternatively, is it sufficient for the device to simply send the 10-bit pixel data along with the HDR metadata to the display, assuming the display can handle HDR processing?
Additionally: If the display does not support 10-bit color or HDR metadata, can this requirement be ignored? If the requirement still applies (i.e., it remains a "MUST"), how should the SoC (device) behave in this scenario to meet the requirement?
I appreciate your clarification on these points. Thank you for your assistance.
Best regards, Jonathan
