Description
Dear Google Cloud Translation Team,
I would like to request the addition of Santali (sat) to the Google Cloud Translation API. Santali is a language spoken by over 7 million people across India, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan. It has official recognition in India under the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution and is primarily written in the Ol Chiki script.
Why Santali Should Be Added: Significant User Base – Over 7 million native speakers, many of whom would benefit from digital translation support. Official Recognition – Santali is an officially recognized language in India, making it crucial for governmental, educational, and social services. Growing Digital Presence – There is increasing content in Santali across social media, education platforms, and publications. Lack of Existing Machine Translation Tools – Currently, there are very limited Santali translation services, creating a gap in accessibility and digital inclusivity. Support for Indigenous & Underrepresented Languages – Google's commitment to language diversity and AI inclusion would be further strengthened by adding Santali. Supporting Resources & References: Santali Language on Wikipedia Ol Chiki Script Census & Ethnologue Data on Santali Speakers I appreciate your consideration of this request. The addition of Santali to Google Cloud Translation API would help bridge the linguistic digital divide and empower millions of speakers globally.
