I have informed our engineering team of this feature request. There is currently no ETA for its implementation.
A current workaround would be to check the returned "boundingPoly" [1] "vertices" for the returned "textAnnotations". If the calculated rectangle's heights > widths, than your image is sideways.

Description
Dear Google Cloud Agent Assist Team,
I hope you are doing well.
I am reaching out as a developer working on projects that require Neural Machine Translation (NMT) support for Santali (Ol Chiki Script). Currently, Santali is not available in the Google Cloud Translation API, creating a significant barrier for applications that aim to serve Santali-speaking users.
Why Santali (Ol Chiki) Support is Crucial: Developer & Business Demand – Many developers, including myself, are building applications in education, government, and localization services that require Santali translation. Without API support, integrating Santali into digital platforms remains a major challenge.
Growing Digital Adoption – Santali content is expanding across news portals, government documentation, e-learning platforms, and social media, increasing the demand for automated translation.
Official Language Status – Santali is one of the officially recognized languages of India, used in government communications, education systems, and legal frameworks. Machine translation would greatly enhance accessibility for public and private sector applications.
Bridging the Digital Divide – Currently, there are no robust translation tools for Santali, leaving millions of speakers underserved. Adding Santali to the Google Cloud Translation API would help bridge this gap, enabling AI-powered accessibility.
Alignment with Google's AI & Language Inclusion Goals – Google has been a leader in supporting indigenous and underrepresented languages. Adding Santali to the NMT API would be a significant step toward greater linguistic inclusivity.
Use Cases for Santali NMT API: Government & Public Services – Official translations for Santali-speaking communities. Education & E-Learning – Enabling students to learn in their native language. Media & Content Localization – Supporting Santali-language journalism, websites, and digital content. Conversational AI & Chatbots – Expanding AI-driven communication tools for businesses and organizations. Supporting References & Resources: Santali Language Overview Ol Chiki Script Census & Ethnologue Data on Santali Speakers I strongly believe that adding Santali (Ol Chiki script) to the Google Cloud NMT API would benefit developers, businesses, and millions of users. I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss this further and understand if there is any roadmap for supporting Santali in future updates.
Looking forward to your response.
