Sorry, but I received your email only now because I didn't notice that my mailbox was gull. Now I made some space.
I found the problem with my application, so I checked if the official demo app of Google Solar has the same problem. This is tha app Url:
I tried with this address: Via Monti della Valchetta 37, Rome, Italy
and the API request is:
As you can see in the image there are two buildings, but the roof of one building isn't recognized.
[cid:713c0f65-f966-48bb-8cc8-3080135b9622]
In the documentation I've read that Google Solar uses roof 3D modeling of buildings and sometimes does not recognize roofs, especially if they are flat like this one. So I'm willing to know if there is a way to report such buildings and to insert in Google Solar response.
We have many buikdigs with flat roofs, so it's important to us to know if there is a way to overcame this problem.
We checked also the API coverage of Google Solar and find some hole, like this:
[cid:43a161ba-9463-4548-871b-1d8569cc2187]
It's Italian region Apulia. There are plans to extend the coverage?
Thanks in advance for your response.
Raffaele Terribile

Good day,
Please note that this is an intended behavior of the Solar API. Currently, the Solar API model uses Google Maps data and if a specific building is classified as a whole, then the roof of that building is displayed as a separate.
Newer buildings also may not return any of the data as mapping was realized at a later time.

I hope coverage will increase soon. I'll check the documentation.

Good day,
Could you provide the other information necessary for the roof recognition of Via Monti della Valchetta 37, Rome, Italy
.
You can attach screenshots via the Add attachments

Hi.
I'm unsure about what do you mean with "necessary information"... I've attached two images of the building and a map showing the location where these images are taken. Let me know if this is what you mean, if you need more images or if you need something else...
Thanks

Good day,
Can you kindly specify which of the 2 buildings are being recognized by the API and which is not?
Thank you
ra...@gmail.com <ra...@gmail.com> #10
As you can see in the "Buildings.png" image, the Solar API recognize the southern roof and doesn't recognize the northern roof, probably because is a flat roof.
By the way, I'm developing an app which uses the Solar API and I'm trying to display the panels on the roof, but in my app panels are a little misplaced, as you can see in the "MyAppItaly.png" image. I have used the same code of the Solar API demo (except for the color), but I cannot get the same results. Can be the "REGION" or "LANGUAGE" initialization parameters of the map? I use "it" for "Italy" and "it-IT" for "Italian".
Thank you very much

Thank you very much. I hope will be defined a way to report unrecognized roof, so we can, at least, give to our customer a way to get insight.
Best regards.

Good day,
The two rooftops in the address Via Monti della Valchetta 37, Rome, Italy
are two seperate buildings and would require two seperate FindClosestBuildingsInsights
call to get the exact information from both buildings.
You may also extend the radius of the DataLayers
call to get the full FOV that you would like.
ra...@gmail.com <ra...@gmail.com> #15
Yes, they are two separate buildings. But the test was made for the northern building (with the unrecognized roof) not for the second building (with the recognized roof). You can try with "Via Monti della Valchetta 31, Rome, Italy" or "Via Monti della Valchetta 41, Rome, Italy": it's never recognized as a roof.
la...@google.com <la...@google.com> #16
Hello,
The buildingInsights
requests show valid data for the northern building
in the address. Kindly check the request below if this is correct:
If referring to the demo app
, we will be following up on this case.
Description
Hi.
I'm developing a web application which uses Google Solar APIs to prepare estimations for solar panels installations for Italy. Actually it's still a proof of concept because we are evaluating the API. We have two similar problems:
But in most cases we have to process estimates for flat roofs, so the second problem is very serious for us. There is a way to overcame this limitations? Maybe submitting data to Google Solar team? Or getting only the raw solar irradiation for the area? Or something else?
We found that Google Solar is useful, but we need to find a solution for these two problems.
