Description
Crash Issue on Version 5.2.0 with Data Binding
Description
Hello 👋, I am Mathieu from SportEasy. This Monday, February 10, we released version 5.2.0. After generating an AAB file and pushing it to Firebase, we created a new version in the Play Store.
Issue Encountered
When our users started downloading the version, every screen that utilized data binding threw the following crash: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException - androidx.databinding.DataBinderMapperImpl
We deployed a rollback version 50 minutes later to mitigate the issue, but the damage had already been done.
Impact
We estimate that between 1,995 and 3,300 of our users were impacted by this issue.
Preliminary Analysis
It took us a day to understand that the source of our problems was the APK generated by the AAB from the store. We are unsure if the AAB did not include the data binding generated files or if the APK generation process excluded those files.
Questions
Request for Assistance
We would like to understand more about why this occurred and how we can prevent such issues in the future.
Regards,
Mathieu, SportEasy
