Yes, this is a deficiency in our current design. We don't have a short term solution or workaround.
Description
Issue report
This address: Holitzberg 210, 22417 Hamburg, Germany
Returns a partial match (as-is) in Google Maps UI, but when the country is set to "Deutschland," it finds the correct match.
However, in the Geocoder API, regardless of whether you use "Germany" or "Deutschland" in the address, it always returns a partial match unless you set the language parameter to
DE
, then it works for both country names.Actual issue: a partial match centered to the postal area
Expected valid response: a ROOFTOP match
From the documentation, I understand that the language parameter can influence the results. However, this address doesn’t seem to have any particular characteristics, such as abbreviations, special characters, or uncommon formatting, that could cause issues.
It would be useful to understand what’s happening here to avoid partial matches with standard addresses.
PS: I’m interested in the Geocoder API issue, but I’m mentioning the UI behavior in case it helps with debugging.
Disclaimer: This is a randomly selected address and is not related to me or anyone I know.
