We have Forms on Fire digital reports in use in all warehouses. We are a Google house so we used the Google Data Studio to create reporting over the data from the forms which are in Google Sheets and Google MySQL. When we started this process the Google Data Studio reports dashboards over the data was real time .
When the end user opened the report it refreshed the "real time data" from our Forms on Fire digital forms. Someone at Google decided to make a change in the program and only allow the owner of the report to refresh the data. Not smart. What is the cost of this thoughtless decision? Every report has to be open on a computer 24/365 and physically refreshed.during the day that is $385 per hour, $800,000 annually
We want to be able to select a checkbox in the setup process which causes the Google Data Studio report to "auto refresh" .otherwise we will move our Forms on Fire data out of Google onto another platform and start using Tableau reporting.instead of Data Studio.

I agree this is absolutely needed to make data studio a real competitor in the market. As a xoogler, this is killing valuable productivity time in our startup to refresh dashboards manually daily for our 30 customers - currently at 3 per customer per day and expecting to go to 6 per customer per day shortly. Having this feature would ensure there is trust in our analytics in the eye of the end user and customer. We also plan to use data studio internally for our operations across all teams. We are ready to move from Tableau to Data Studio for everything once this feature is in place.

I do not want end users changing the Charts that my IT Department creates. End Users do not have the knowledge of the product and the data sources to be effective. I thought what would be the reason for View Only.
Let the experts do the dirty work for the end users and let the end users use the provided information to make business decisions. That being said, End Users must have up to date information to make Business Decisions. Without that then what is the point of all of this? I can understand in certain circumstances you may want to make the data static so an option for that could be helpful as mentioned by someone above but that would be rare.
PLEASE GIVE VIEW ONLY Users the ability to refresh the data. Would also be GREAT for a way to have an option for the data to REFRESH automatically when the page is first loaded if possible.
Even better if there were a way to schedule the refresh of data sources if that will also update all of the reports associated to that datasource.

It's hard to imagine many dashboards which *wouldn't* require data refreshes due to consistent use, so this should surely be a mandatory feature?

This has been a large amount of trouble within my organization when data keeps getting reset to old cached data, even after changing data sources. This could all be fixed if the view-only users could just refresh the database themselves. Or just have auto-refreshing options that work.

I want to create dashboards for clients that have only view rights, but I don't want to sit there multiple times each day to MANUALLY refresh data for them.

As said somewhere up in the thread, I believe the best way to implement this feature back, is to add the possibility to choose whether to give or not the permission to viewers refresh the data source.
Also being able to define how often a source is updated would be great.

The ask is to give users the ability to manually refresh as a minimum. The need is to create the the ability to schedule report refresh that is automated and flexible where the developer can scheduled the refresh every few minutes to once a year.

this is very much necessary for pulling data using third party connectors. without refresh, the report just goes blank for Salesforce data, so it is either completely useless for users with view permission only, or I need to give everyone edit permission which is too much risk.

Currently, my viewers have no way of refreshing just the data if they change the date range. Calculations are wrong without the refresh as well. Hard browser refresh resets everything.

I can see there refresh option for those who has edit access of report.
User who has view access to report and want to refresh the report they need to reload the page but that will remove all filters applied on reports.

Re-enabling Report Refresh for Report Viewers
2) How do you plan on using this feature?
Allow viewers to refresh the report. This Feature was taken away mid-March or April.
3) What's the impact that this feature will have on you or your business? (Time saved, new users, etc.)
This will allow viewers to access up to date data without being in Edit mode
This will allow report creators to no longer have to refresh the report for viewers
This will save admin time
The Impact of LIVE data is huge!!
