Sample problem/bug on Samsung Captivate (Galaxy S) running 2.2. Probably pretty annoying to my co-workers...

Same problem om Samsung Galaxy S II

Same issue on my HTC Thunderbolt. Please fix, would make me very very happy to hear notifications while at work and listening to music, instead of going all day missing all sorts of notifications because i need to keep my phone on silent. Really kinda expected this feature to already be part of the great package that is android+HTC so let’s add this seemingly simple addition and quite us all down!

Same here, pretty annoying. Using a Samsung Galaxy S running 2.2.1
ne...@gmail.com <ne...@gmail.com> #9
Also same here on Desire Z, is it really that difficult to fix this ?
vi...@gmail.com <vi...@gmail.com> #10
Same issue on Incredible 2...I like to use my headphones for privacy. If I wanted to annoy those around me I would play my music through the speakers. But I'm sure my notifications are annoying those around me just fine. PLEASE fix
pa...@google.com <pa...@google.com> #11
same problem on xoom wifi (honeycomb 3.0) and it happens not only on wired headphones but also bluetooth headphones. i'd really love to mute the speakers when i use the headphones to listen to music and still be able to be notified and NOT disturbing others around me in the library. Please, at least make it an option ?

ditto - Droid Charge.
As some help... looking at forums online made it look like it was past a Droid problem and that all Verizon CDMA phones have this issue and it may not be possible to fix it (although you're Google, I've got my confidence in you!).
With a little more research, it looks like that's not true because iPhones (possible AT&T? but don't think so) can elegantly play the ringtones however the user wishes (like the majority of posts are requesting)
On the contrary... many people said they had it playing through the headphones AND the speaker, which does not happen for me (although I've only tried on vibrate... but still it would be nice for the notification/ringtone to be played through the headset even with the phone on vibrate)

same problem. not happy with my choice. you better fix it!
yb...@google.com <yb...@google.com> #15
Not only that, but the minimum volume is so loud, I can't use it in my office. So, I'm screwed. Vibrate for notifications doesn't work either. So, I either have to have the notifications very loud for everyone to hear, or none at all. this sucks!

Same issue. Nexus S with 2.3.4. Can't understand why it's been made like this. So many people use their phone at the office or commuting. I've had to stop using my phone and started using other music players ...

same problem, htc desire hd, done some digging but atm their doesn't seem to be a fix, plays through both headphones and my external and has only started happening to me today, I travel by bus everyday listening to music too, this could be extremely annoying and in my opinion is a very embarrassing mistake
yb...@google.com <yb...@google.com> #25
I just noticed this on my Wildfire S.
Maybe the headphone port is designed to work only with the stock hands-free headset that comes with the phone. A different connection could mean that regular headphones would not disable the speakers (as I think this is done by the hardware). However, surely the software could fix this too?

Here's hoping that Ice Cream Sandwich will fix this issue...
de...@gmail.com <de...@gmail.com> #29
Amen to that, #27. I've got a Nexus S, so I'll try to remember to update this thread as soon as I get updated to ICS.

Same on my Samsung Charge.

I'm having the same issue with my MyTouch 4G. It sucks because I like to listen to music at work, but the higher-ups don't really appreciate my phone constantly going off.
ch...@gmail.com <ch...@gmail.com> #32
Yea, please fix. I bought a Samsung Galaxy S II instead of an iPhone... iPhone, nor any other phone that I've owned has the same problem
[Deleted User] <[Deleted User]> #33
On my Thunderbolt I experience this with both wired and bluetooth headphones. When I use round timer on one of my exercises, the alert tones are playing LOUDLY out of the back speaker in addition to through my bluetooth headphones. This is a MUST FIX.

Suprizingly, I seem to be the first one ever to report my findings on the Galaxy Nexus.
Unfortunately, the bug is still present as of the current latest version (4.0.1).

I recently installed the update on my Galaxy S II (to version 2.3.6) and I still have the same issue. I really don't understand why this is so difficult to fix.

Same issue on Acer A500 Iconia Tab running 3.2 - have to turn notification volume down to zero when in the office.
yb...@google.com <yb...@google.com> #37
YES. This is ridiculous. What's the point of putting headphones in in the library, when I get these loud notifications on my ASUS Transformer.

Having this same problem on xperia Ray as well. Would be nice to hear the notifications through the headphones and have the external speaker turned off when headphones are plugged in.

Same issue on Samsung Exhibit II 2.3.5 Gingerbread. Is there an app out there that lets User manage headphone and speaker volume manually?

Having this problem on Transformer Prime running ICS (4.0.3)...
az...@gmail.com <az...@gmail.com> #41
Same issue with Samsung Captivate with Android 2.2, 2.3.5 and 4.0.3.
Minimally, this should be user configurable.

Wow, extremely disappointed in Android for this issue - I left iPhone for this and things like this areextremely annoying. This has to be the most idiotic design decision I've ever seen, I don't want my phone going off if I have headphones plugged in. Seriously Google what is your problem?
