In GMSMapView.h the declaration of the cameraTargetBounds property does not have a retain attribute and it should if you're not compiling with automatic reference counting. Xcode gives the following warning:

GMSMapView.h:388:1: warning: no 'assign', 'retain', or 'copy' attribute is specified - 'assign' is assumed [-Wobjc-property-no-attribute]
@property(nonatomic, nullable) GMSCoordinateBounds *cameraTargetBounds;
