Thank you for posting your issue.
Google rolled out a new search feature, "Popular Times", that allows users to know whether a place is crowded at a given time.
However, this feature hasn't been added to Google Maps API. Although it has already been added as an enhancement request, there is still no guarantee that this request will be implemented. [1]
You can also star this issue (https://issuetracker.google.com/35827350 ) for further updates.

Did google tag this one AND the one its referencing in "Status: Duplicate of 35827350" as duplicates? Does that mean neither will ever be solved?
be...@google.com <be...@google.com> #5
We mistakenly tagged issue #35827350 as Duplicate on March 20th. This was a mistake and was changed back to Assigned shortly after.
Apologies for the confusion this might have caused!

This is marked as a duplicate of https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/35827350 but the comments section for that post is closed (?).
Adding a comment here to voice support for a "Popular Times" API to be added to Google Maps API.
There is this library:https://github.com/m-wrzr/populartimes which is third-party and the data returned in their example is the type of information that I'm looking for. It would be preferable that this be a Google API since the author notes "As Google Maps is constantly updated this library can be unstable".
Any updates on when this might be available?

+1. Here's hoping that in 2020 Google understands that supporting the API means supporting user engagement with Google.

I am also writing in to request access to Googles Popular Times API. This would be very handy for many apps. Please get this done in 2020

Thanks for bumping up this item. Here's hoping that the next GMB API update (v4.6, v5.0?) will include this data.

Wow, what a great point regarding how people will need to better understand how busy a location is to decide when to go. Having this available in the API will help brands better plan their staffing in an AV (after virus) world.

Re #11: this library scrapes data, which is a violation of the Google Maps ToS.

Please add this feature. It would prove invaluable in urban analytics and can be very powerful towards improving the built urban environment.

2+ years of legitimate requests for data with real public value. It's hard to believe that Google seriously considers this a P4. How is this "not relevant"?
"An issue that should be addressed eventually. Such an issue is not relevant to core organizational functions or the work of other teams, or else it relates only to the attractiveness or pleasantness of the system."

ta...@gmail.com <ta...@gmail.com> #38
+1 I think this has been a requested feature since 2015. 7 years ago. When can we expect to see this feature???
ja...@bluesparklabs.com <ja...@bluesparklabs.com> #39
University libraries have non-standard peak hours that change at various times of the year (think, mid-term exams, finals, spring break, summer vacay, etc). With covid still a fact of life, it would be amazing if the "busy times by day of week" info were to be opened up to an api, so we could let library visitors know when off-peak hours are on our website with real-time data. I'm sure this is useful in all manner of other public spaces beyond libraries.
