For the saved searches sidebar, add a '[total] / [new since last checked by this user]' counter or each item (like gmail), configurable to turn either or both parts off.

I believe you requested for a feature request rather than a bug. As such, I have changed the type of this issue and forwarded the requested feature to the related product team.
