Could be another duplicate of this bug, which is still present in v3.1.4: https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/110287754
There are some "fixes" mentioned in that bug report.
I'm also very disappointed that it takes more than 2 months to fix such a big problem.

I've just updated my Studio based on a notification recommending to do so, and now I have this issue. Is there an actual fix to that or just wait for an update? pretty frustration
di...@google.com <di...@google.com> #11
#9 what version did you just update to? Does the XML show any errors? Can you see any errors on the design tab?
am...@gmail.com <am...@gmail.com> #12
i was on 3.2 and all was good, the moment i updated to 3.3 (Android Studio) things went blurry and pixelated, i tried in windows to set scaling to 100% (in 1080P monitors, it is set to 125% by default, which is the recommended value) and it was sharp and good, but using the computer at 100% is unbearable.
ay...@gmail.com <ay...@gmail.com> #13
I have the same problem with 3.3 ,I even tried the 3.4 beta 1 ,the same problem: blurry preview in all screens! (see screenshot of a sample screen) . I had no problem with all the previous version 3 and 3.1

I just updated to 3.3 from version 2-something and had the same problem.
Fortunately, I found something that worked for me!
I went to the 'Help' tab and clicked on 'Edit Custom Properties'. It might ask you to generate a file if it doesn't already exist. Once this properties file was made, I wrote 'hidpi=false' (no quotations) on a new line, saved it, and restarted Android Studio. This made my preview screen become sharp as usual.
Hope this works for others!

#14 Worked
I had updated to 3.3
But this also scales down the text size anyway one can resize the text.

Thanks for the report. Could you please try to use "is.hidpi=false" instead of "hidpi=false" and let us know the result. Thanks!
mi...@live.com.au <mi...@live.com.au> #17
Hi, I tried 'is.hidpi=false' instead, but the blurry effect was restored. It essentially had the same effect as having nothing in the properties file.

my preview is still blurry after i tried 'is.hidpi=false'....

co...@gmail.com <co...@gmail.com> #22
I see that this problem was first reported on Jun 2018, how much more time do you need to fix it? This was caused due to an update and if you can't fix it, give us an option to roll back at least. The work around solution mentioned in comment 14 is not acceptable to me. At least let us know when you are planning to fix it.

I also have this issue, using Android Studio 3.3. The blueprint works perfectly but the design preview loks terrible... Unusable.
as...@gmail.com <as...@gmail.com> #24
Also, I tried both "is.hidpi=false" and "hidpi=false". The first one doesn't fix it. The second one does, but it makes all other icons in Android Studio way too small for my display (23.8 inch 1440p monitor), so I can't really work well in any scenario :(. Thanks for the help.
di...@google.com <di...@google.com> #25
Thanks for useful reports. This was caused by scaling factors that were different to 1 and 2. There is the possibility of this being fixed by forcing the scale factor on the display settings but a fix is coming in a future release.
