Open a directory on a device (using Emulator Nexus_5X_API_28_x86 Android 9, API 28) and also with adb shell. Make a change in adb (in my case move an ordinary file from one directory to another with mv). The Device Explorer window does not show the change, and opening/closing enclosing directories doesn't fix it. Opening another device and then returning to the emulator does correct it. It might be tough to catch the changes made by adb, but at least provide a refresh button.
