The code example at

https://github.com/sgrossberndt/WebViewCrash/commit/9b14ecc0a4e92150760670cab9d76262a2555114 demonstrates a crash in Android versions 5.x and 6.x (API 21-23) when using a WebView in combination with the current version 1.1.0 of the androidx.appcompat:appcompat AndroidX AppCompat component. It does not happen with version androidx.appcompat:appcompat:1.0.2.

In Android 5.0 (API 21) the app already crashes on start, in Android 6.0 (API 23) it crashes on tapping the <select> element.
