Wouldn't have gone with google if I knew they'd do this. Scummy move.

This is a product feature issue; not a developer issue. Our Android Support team will be in contact with you shortly.
In the meantime, here are helpful resources:

If only Google could at least have various alternatives, and not just "pay each month and don't even get unlimited storage as you had before".
Even for payment, it could have included unlimited storage, while providing other treats (no ads in various apps, free credits for rewarded ads, paid apps become free,...)...
Or even a single payments as you use Google Photos. Meaning X USD per TB.

It would be nice if it could keep being free for existing users
lb...@gmail.com <lb...@gmail.com> #9
@8 Yes, that too. I wrote it in the end of my first post here. :)

I feel very misled by google. This isn't right for them to take away something they said it would last "forever"
lb...@gmail.com <lb...@gmail.com> #11
@10 That's right.
If you watch the ads again, you will see they say:
"take as many photos as you want without running out of space...introducing free app space... never run out of storage again, with Google Photos".
So now Google Photos will not be able to do it. It can't promise the one main thing it was told to do, of solving out-of-storage issue, for free.
In fact it doesn't even have this solution if you pay. None of the plans there is unlimited.

So if I market an application to send messages for free, and a few years later, I start making people pay to send messages, that's okay? No, that's scummy as hell. Come on guys, don't do this to us.
cl...@gmail.com <cl...@gmail.com> #13
Please reconsider your policy. You promised free storage. Stick with you promises.
el...@gmail.com <el...@gmail.com> #14
Maybe keep it unlimited for Google One users

This wouldn't be a problem if unlimited storage for photos wasn't the main feature advertised. This is bait and switch.

Give unlimited high quality storage at least for Google Pixels!

Absolutely agree with this. Google could not have been clearer in their adverts’ wording.

It's about trust. You say "don't trust Huawei" then you go back on your word? You sold a product using the word "forever" and "free", just so you had a huge database to program your AI with, face/event/location recognition. I realise truth and honesty are concepts you are not familiar with, but right now Huawei is looking good. May your wallet reflect your values.

+1 and all the $$$ we've spent under false advertising that it'll stay free. It seems like a bait now to get those pixel devices and get addicted to "free" service then charge users.
How come customer don't get the option to stop paying EMIs when they feel like they don't want to pay anymore. It's really frustrating and hopefully Google can do something about it.

I was hoping the Pixel 6 would have it, as that was one of the main reasons I got a 4A 5G. Will have to keep that 4A a couple more years instead of updating to the 6 just so that I still have storage for pics.
xk...@gmail.com <xk...@gmail.com> #41
crap and lies, and way too much of both
xa...@gmail.com <xa...@gmail.com> #42
As with others here, +1 from me too.
It's very dumb that Pixels after the 4a 5G won't have the unlimited Storage Saver photo storage. Google probably wants people to "upgrade" to the new 5a 5G, Pixel 6, or whatever, but doing that would be a downgrade in terms of Google Photos storage. I wouldn't want yet another subscription just to have room for my growing list of photos I take with my phone's great camera; I already have Google Domains, Google Cloud, and Google Fi to handle... I already kinda fear that possibility.

Description
And of course there were plenty of articles praising it:
I really hate that Google Photos is going to be paid for. If you search about it, plenty of users are against it, and not just me. There are many articles about it, and people talk about it on social networks too.
Here's an example:
After all this time that it was published this service is free and unlimited, while pushing people to use it instead of the payment of Apple and other services, and reducing the need for large external/expandable storage while reducing the cost for all users. I've actually recommended everyone to use it, including my own family.
Please make it free and unlimited again.
At least consider it for existing users, and maybe have restrictions of how much to upload per month for new users.
