This ticket was open for 21 month and now I got a deadline of 30 days.... :(
Unfortunately, the behaviour is still there, reproducible with the initially mentioned steps.

I am wondering if my reply was read, because the status hasn't changed.

Chrystian: Can you check if we can reproduce this issue when/if you have time?
Description
For your kind information:
Problem:
After each copied file Android Studio is updating indices and "scanning files to index", although the target folder is NOT within the current project. You can see this in the statusbar at the bottom of Android Studio.
It seems that this slows down the process a bit and performs unnecessary file accesses (= possibly extra data consumption = more costs on wireless connections by your phone company) and on SSD unnecessary writes.
Expectation:
Should the target folder be not within the current project, the index update has to be suppressed; it is in my sight totally obsolirrelevant and not useful.
Thank you for checking.
Best,
A.
