Using this with Kotlin gradle DSL which also brings up other bugs while adding material components (like FABs) as the editor cannot find the dependencies in build.gradle file coz may be it pattern matches it to the groovy syntax and shows an alert everytime to add the dependency for the design library. There are a couple more, may be I'll create issues for them later when I have the time.

Created a custom button class which just extends the MaterialButton. The layout editor doesn't seem to have any problems with that and works for now.

I also have this problem with the Microsoft Launcher on my Pixel 6 Pro. If I open an app too quickly after going home, sometimes all I see is my wallpaper. If I enter the app switched and click the most recent app twice the app will eventually show.
This is a very annoying bug and should be fixed ASAP. It makes third party launchers basically unusable. I don't know how this got past beta.

Pixel 7 running Nova launcher. Just updated to Android 14 and frequently when I try to open an app (any app) it just shows my wallpaper. If I go back to my home screen and try again it typically loads. From a user standpoint, this is essentially non functional and needs to be addressed ASAP.

Screen sometimes becomes unresponsive and I must turn the screen off and on again with the power button to get it working.
On occasion the phone locks up and doesn't respond for a few minutes, even unable to wake the screen. After a couple minutes it will work again.

It's frustrating and dangerous when I'm driving. Normally I only touch my phone for one thing when I drive: to tap the screen when my phone is asleep to pull up Google Maps. But now, to do that, I have to unlock my phone, find the Google Maps app icon, and try to open it 3-4 times before I get my map.

Same issue here with Pixel 8 Pro last update and Nova launcher last update too ... i must not open an app too quickly after an other because this issue occur 70% of the time. Make me feel like i have purchased a very cheap phone model everyday since. Moreover i noticed that lockscreen is frequently broken ... cannot use fingerprint and face unlock at all (especially after a long unised period = night), only by pressing power button the phone wake up and unlock feature became functional again ... This 2 bugs are the deal breaker of the moment for me and many user i guess, pls fix this ASAP.

Since there isn't any communication from google on the matter I wanted to share with you all that I no longer have the issue. I used to keep battery saver on 24/7 since the processor and modem just like to gobble up juice. Now, since I've stopped using battery saver the home screen no longer freezes. Haven't had it freeze even a single time since turning off battery saver a week ago.

Pixel 8 with Dec update and Nova 8.0.9 beta and the issue is still happening. The problem manifests as clicking on any drawer icon and seemingly nothing happens. However, if you then tap the screen where apps are supposed to display, it does work. What is happening is that the launcher does deploy, but the UI is invisible. Can workaround by locking the phone and unlocking it.

Force stopping the Lawnchair app resolves the problem for a little while. Using defaults for animation-related developer settings reduces frequency of issues slightly (likely just because I don't try to tap too quickly after navigating home)

Someone should fix that OS already. All third party launchers are flickering, glitchy buggy. It's an Android 14 problem and I swear to God if Google keeps messing up so bad I'll get an iPhone. I've had Pixel 6, 7 and now 8 and this company is becoming a sad joke considering the bugs every device and every Android version has. I'm so fed up. You buy a new Pixel, there are tons of bugs. Same issue on pixel 7 pro with app drawer button rather than gesture. After hitting the button 3 times, it breaks. I have to force stop pixel launcher or clear it's cache, then the app drawer button works again. I use nova launcher. I have to do this a dozen times a day.

This needs Executive Support from Sundar. Once again work from home Software Engineers have managed to throw out the Babby With the Bath Water. The speed at which engineers break working apps in the name of security and income has increased significantly since the Pandemic. Dear Google this issue is so major it's a slap on the face of users that this hasn't been fixed. I recently upgraded from pixel 6 to pixel 8pro, and my phone feels slower because of this. I can't wait 1 - 2 seconds after navigating home before I see my app icons. This severely impacts my phone usage and almost drives me crazy. Why won't you fix such a huge bug. I agree I even told our President that it is like when cable companies tried to force us to buy their equipment but Federal law opened the market for 3rd party equipment you could purchase for less or was better. In this case the Nine Launcher is better but Google Engineers are forcing it not to work in favor of their crapy launcher and ultimately belief that their stock would rise by controlling the app store indirectly and forcing developers to pay more to keep up with their coding shenanigans. Ultimately ABC Corporation or Google gets more money from individuals whose programs they broke through forced obsolescence. And they make it so you can not downgrade to a prior version of Android. Somebody, everbody should write Washington and voice their concerns about Googles hidden Monopolistic behavior directly to the Federal Government so that they can rule it under RICCO and turn over the stones of corupt practices with a bright flashlight to see who is commanding it and eliminate the very Thiefs of hard working Peoples money by Calling them out by name starting with ABC.

I have a Samsung a52 recently updated to Android 14. I use the Microsoft Launcher. Ever since the update, sometimes I click to open the app tray and nothing appears to happen, but a second click opens an app that is in the tray. So, it's as though the tray is open, but invisible.
To remedy, sometimes just closing the phone screen and reopening works, sometimes I need to reboot.

Same issues here on Oppo Find x5 pro, updated to Android14 and all third party launchers have the same issues (unresponsive, laggy, not showing icons etc.) Emailed oppo support and they just gave me the typical robot responses, "have you tried turning it off and on again, what about factory resetting the device"

Experiencing a similar issue with Microsoft Launcher on Android 14 (OnePlus 9 Pro - feb 2024 security patch release).
Returning from an app to home via gesture is showing the wallpaper but the system somehow "hangs" for one second before displaying icons.
Tried other launchers, issue is the same.
Interestingly, showing all opened apps with the appropriate gesture, then clicking on the wallpaper instantly brings back icons.

Same issue here with Nova launcher. Only way to fix it is to force stop Pixel Launcher and clear its storage. Then swipes will work again for a while.

The Nova Launcher and pull down menu System are Slower since 14. It is a pity that Google managed to make a Flagship Suck and slowdown. i am using the Galaxy Fold 5 and the prior version of Android did mot lag like 14 doea. Google should allow all of us to downgrade from 14.. PLEASE LISTEN TEAM GOOGLE. Allow us to downgrade vs forcing upgrades. I gor a similar issue with Nova 8.0.6 and Android 14, recently my phone (HM5P) updated its OS to Android14. when i try to ope recent apps, it doest do anythig... Its complicated because I've to restart the phone and only works 1 time, after that I cannot open recent apps to switch from app A to app B.

Guys, I wasted 3 days of my life referencing this bug report, chatting with live support on about issues, following their troubleshooting steps, and emailing their team with screenshots, SN/IMEIs, etc.
All Google says to do is submit feedback in Android settings. That's it. They gave me Play credit (hush money) for my inconveniences, but I would assume it's to actually not waste any more of their resources. Still doesn't fix the root issue.
Be as loud as you want on here, it doesn't seem to make a difference. Bickering (kindly) with support and mentioning they are not investigating this deep enough does not make a difference. Crazy I can have a perfectly functioning device but it somehow is ruined by updates and no longer becomes functional and no one wants to own up to it, as we see in 10+ months of bug reports.

After it's clear google isn't getting back to us, I've learned to just... live with it. If the screen locks up and I can't click any app, I lock the phone, wait a couple seconds, and unlock. Usually fine. If I can't use my recents button, I have a shortcut set up on my screen using Tasker to open to the Pixel Launcher settings where I can force stop it, which gives me the recent button functionality back. It's not ideal, but I don't want to give up Nova Launcher, and Google isn't doing ANYTHING. (Pixel 7a)

Man kann das Problem temporär beheben indem man in den Entwickleroptionen den Punkt Animationsdauerfaktor auf 0x stellt. Dann tritt das Problem nicht mehr auf, aber dafür andere Probleme.

The same here. Only the stock launcher works properly. The menu button triggers a blank homescreen, and also triggers a blank screen when trying to choose between loaded apps. Closing apps via menu button and the "Close apps" button also can easily trigger ablank homescreen. Nova launcher, Niagara, Microsoft, whatever... This is extremely annoying!
As I can see, there's a plethora of people encountering this issue, and there is obvioulsy no statement or effort to get it fixed, over a long time. So will definitely be iPhone next time.

Experiencing issues on brand new Pixel 9 Pro with Niagra launcher freezing up on the home screen and becoming inoperable - significant disruption to my usage. Have previously seen similar behavior from Android 14 on Galaxy S21 and Pixel 7a using both Niagra and Microsoft Launcher. Very disappointed by this and hoping it is resolved with Android 15 release.

It's an issue on an issue tracker for the entire Android ecosystem, i.e hundreds of brands making thousands of models selling millions of devices- and this issue had the most stars yet it's on one brand of device-which happens to be Google's devices- and you all have ignored it for over a year.

I'm on the latest Android 15 beta on a Pixel 7 and the fix may already be in this build as I can't reproduce the issue running Nova Launcher.
Normally if I swipe up a couple times in quick succession I get a blank black non existent application tile and trying now I can't get this to happen or replicate the behavior in the OP

So, the big question is: will the fix come to the Google Pixel 5 which does not receive new updates?
The Pixel 5 was broken by this bug and I really, really regret installing Android 14 on it because Google will probably keep it in a broken state, so you are forced to buy a new model. Needless to say I will not buy another Pixel if they do that.

Nova Launcher also has a very noticable delay on OnePlus 13 when swiping for home. Works fine with buttons. All third party launchers seem to be having this issue, and it's been ongoing for quite a long time.

1. 1. Set a custom launcher as your default launcher (such as Nova)
2. 2. Open an app
3. 3. Perform the swipe up navigation gesture to return to the home screen
4. 4. Immediately upon returning to the home screen, tap any app icon on the home screen to open an app
What did you expect to happen?
The app should open.
What actually happened?
Sometimes the screen will flash, sometimes it'll show just the wallpaper and nothing else. In the latter state, you must swipe up again to go home before you can do anything else. In both cases, the selected app will not open.

I was not able to trigger this issue using the Pixel launcher. I was able to trigger the issue using Nova and Action Launcher.
This reminds me of a similar issue with Android 12 or 13 (I can't remember which) where the touch input to open the app would be outright ignored, with no other indication that a tap was registered. That issue was eventually fixed.
