Hi there OP, "places_changed" isn't quite the right event to detect users attempting to abandon the place selection. Could your implementation work with other events for this purpose?

Please implement the ability to toggle elevation on styled vector maps with tilt in the JS api.
It would be infinitely useful. I have so many ideas of possible apps i want to implement with this but it can currently only be made with mapbox.
