Thank you for reporting this issue, we are aware that some older version of the emulator are unable to handle method breakpoint (Internal bug: b/308529390).

The temporary workaround is to use normal breakpoint instead of method breakpoints. The video you attached does not show if you have created such a breakpoint. Another workaround is to use a real device which does not seem to exhibit this issue.

@6 BTW, the workaround of using a device doesn't work, and sometimes the dialog doesn't even appear.

Can't reach the duplicate. It says : "Access is denied to this issue"

How can I know it's a duplicate? I can't reach it...

I wonder if Intellij fixed the problem upstream. I used to be able to repro this issue using either:

• Use a Method Breakpoint.

Along with (Emulator API 34) I could repro with:

Android Studio Iguana

Android Studio Jellyfish | 2023.3.1 RC 2

However, if I use

Android Studio Koala | 2024.1.1 Canary 6

I can no longer repro the issue.

I do not have access to the "a large Android app" you mentioned in the bug report. Can you try to see if Koala Preview fixes it?

@12 What do you mean you can't reproduce it? You don't see the dialog at all? Or for a short time? First run the app, then attach to the process.

Why do we even have this dialog? Why do we have to wait for it, when in the past it wasn't there at all, and it was done in an instant?

Also, can you please fix the issue of not being able to create a new emulator? Without it, it's hard for me to try to reproduce this now... https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/327799906

@12 OK the bug still occurs. Maybe not on the project I wrote above (on Github), but at least on the original one I talked about.

If you want to help solve this bug, please provide accurate repro steps. Using https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-326539 or "Method breakpoints" were actionable. The three steps provided in comment #1 are not.

@15 How odd. Now that I've tried again, just with recording what I wanted to show, I can't see the issue.

Tried even on emulator and with breakpoints too.

Please fix the emulators issue though, so that I could try on more versions of Android.

Hi - just wanted add to the list here:

I see the dialog on Jellyfish and Iguana latest versions, and the dialog is shown every time the debugger is attached. We have a fairly large/complex project, so debugging is impossible as it takes 15-20min to complete its "processing".

However, I don't see it on the latest Hedgehog version 2023.1.1 Patch 2 (as mentioned in this Reddit comment).

We would love to try out Jellyfish/Iguana's new features, but unfortunately this is a blocker.

Please try Android Studio Koala | 2024.1.1 Canary 6 where the issue seems to have been solved by Jetbrains.

This dialog should be removed. I don't get why we need this.

Is it crashing/freezing the app anymore? No. Fixed. Great.

BUT, does the cancel button work? No. Not great. And considering how long it takes to finally finish (10 minutes, easy), it (almost) might as well have crashed.

I understand how it can be confusing but this dialog is part of Intellij IDEA (Android Studio is an Intellij IDEA plugin). The cancel button not working should be reported on Intellij website:

The cancel button is definitely a GUI problem which belongs to Jetbrain.

If the VM (ART) does not behave, that is a Google problem.

@32 Please remove this dialog completely. The IDE has a lot of things that steal focus. This dialog isn't needed at all and doesn't provide anything useful. Blocks the UI for no reason.

According to https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-287729/Emulated-methods-breakpoints-dialog-refuses-to-cancel the fix should be in IntelliJ Idea 2024.2.0.1. Anyone know which version of Android Studio is based on that? Is it some version of Ladybug?
