Just as a note, this feature has been available on iOS for 2 years...

Thanks for answering. Yes, equivalent to spans in GMSPolyline, as shown at 0:30 in the video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6kWSAXuUZY ).

This would be really great for us as well -- we're currently drawing gradient route lines as small segments, which don't look good since the segments don't get smoothed out properly :(

+1. This is not funny, that it's available for iOS for several years, and it's not available for Android even now.

It's a really useful feature.

How is it with the Android Google Maps team, we can't get parity with the iOS feature set from 5 years ago? How has google not been embarrassed into fixing feature gaps like this? It is their own product! Gotta love that now they are charging more for it and the only features they have added to places and maps is ways to keep track of their enhanced billing. It's the same APIs with new names so their line about keeping it cheap for years comes with the extreme caveat that they haven't implemented even feature parity with the iOS SDK in year.

I can happily confirm that the engineering team has been implementing this feature. At this stage we can't provide a release timeline. Thank you for your understanding.

Hello,
I was working for a while on a use case for creating a gradient polyline on Google Maps in Android natively since it is not a built-in API in Google Maps Android SDK.
So, I created a Github Repository that discussing the use case, the approach that I took, and how I implement it to show a gradient polyline on Google Maps in Android.
If you are interested in such a topic, please take a look and feel free to reach out or to contribute :)

Description
The same would be great on Android. This is very useful to visualize elevation (for instance).
