Indeed, I'm also interested by an API that is able to return some detail of Google Maps license usage, to answer this use case :

Regularly, retrieve the usage of the licence from a given date.
For instance, every monday, retrieve the usage from last week. Or every 2 days, retrieve the usage from last 2 days.
Parameters :
- start date
- end date

Result is a JSON collection of usage count, broken down by:
- Date
- Channel (!important)
- Type (map displays javascript, map displays static maps, Web Services geocoding, Web Services directions, places JS places, places JS places autocomplete...)

We can then have an automated management of the license on our side.
We can be warn about the pic of charge or anomaly deteted by analyze of stats, and not obliged to download the CSV file and import it.
We can also group together several channel to follow the usage by internal team or internal company branch.
