Please add reminders and recurring tasks! These are basically the only features that make me use other task-related products...
ko...@gmail.com <ko...@gmail.com> #5
Google Tasks will likely not be getting new features, such as reminders and recurrence. Both of these features are part of Google Reminders, which are exposed in Google Now, Inbox, Calendar, and Keep. Reminders don't have an API yet however, but issue 36760283 is a feature request to add one.

Thank you for the update regarding this topic.
I like the idea of generic reminders across all Google products, but I ask myself how it will be possible to connect a task to a reminder?
In the context of Google Tasks this is an important feature. A reminder that has been created for a particular task depends on this task. If the task is deleted then the reminder must be deleted as well. If a Task is opened for editing then the associated reminder must be opened as well so that it can be maintained by the user.
My question is, from a conceptional point of view will this be possible with reminder? If not then unfortunately reminders are not a replacement for the original feature request.

There are big design problems that makes reminders just a broken implementation, not good at all for a professional organized person: they are accessible and created from Google Keep, or Google Inbox, not from Gmail and can be made, or seen on google calendar only on android devices, no other calendar can see them... not even google own calendar on a computer or ChromeOS.
Also if you delete, or mark a reminder as done on Android Google Calendar (the only calendar where you can actually do that), that change does not propagate to neither of the other two products... so they still there under the reminder section.
"... did I got those done?? why are they still on Keep reminders, or Inbox... wait, but they are not on Calendars reminders???... oh I cannot see them at all on my Computer Calendar... Mhmmm... I should have gone with MS Outlook!"
People that need to get things done, actually use calendars, regular email/Gmail and still use their computers, but there is not a way to see reminders on google calendar on any computer, browsers, not even on ChromeOS... but you can see tasks on google calendar on any computer using any browser and you can create them from Gmail, Calendar and Tasks itself... email-calendar-todos are the 3 pillars of any professional getting work done... That is why Task is an actual stronger product... it just needs reminders and recurrence.
There are 3rd party programs that implement those, like in GTasks for android and GTasks for desktop, but it would be nice if it was added to the API by Google... instead of creating another two (inbox and keep) duplicate unfinished services that do not work across devices.
</rant>
It is getting ridiculous... dealing with Google product is like following the dreams of a ADD kid:
instead of always start new projects, many of them redundant, just finish the one you have which are not broken... ever heard of "keep it simple ...", or "if it is not broken ..."
Google Orkut---> Google friend connect ---> Google Plus
Google Docs ---> Google Drive
Picassa ---> Google Photos
Google Video ---> YouTube
Google Wave ---> Google Talk ---> Google Voice ---> Google Hangout
Google Bookmarks, Buzz, Gear, Reader, iGoogle, Postini, Jaiku, etc.

So, using the UI (mobile & web apps) you can set recurring tasks (every day/week/month/year).
Using the API you can detect the 1 _next_ (optionally recurring) date via the "due" field. Readonly.
The API doesn't support write or reading the exact recurrence specified.

Thanks for for finally integrating due date time and recurring settings into gtasks.
When exactly will this feature be available in the tasks API? Why is the task API supposed to have read only access to this information? This would make this feature virtually useless for for all 3rd party clients that rely on the task API!

It's been 3 months now that Google Tasks added timed and recurring tasks to the web interface and app.
Still, there is no v2 of the tasks API available or even announced, breaking compatibility with all 3rd party apps.
Usually, breaking API changes were announced ~1 year in advance (like dropping multi-level subtasks) - but this came overnight with no fix available.
Can someone at Google please give a rough timeline on when v2 will be released.

Hello there!
Regarding reminders
, do you mean adding the functionality Copy reminders to Tasks
to the API?
If that's not the case, can you clarify this request? Is this currently possible in the UI?
Kind regards.

Google Tasks got a new feature added: Starring tasks. This, too, is not available via the API, rendering all our apps quite lame.

agree with requests for persistent tasks if not done by due date, and recurring tasks. also starred tasks feature available thru API, so other apps that use google tasks and do have the persistent/recurring features can incorporate the starred items feature. thanks!

Google has a history of divesting from projects after they launch, and engineers don't want to maintain existing projects because they won't get promotions out of it (I was a Google engineer for 8 years). And now they've laid off a bunch of people, so I'm guessing this and the related Tasks issues will never get addressed. Lesson: never depend on a Google product sticking around or being maintained unless it's one of their big ones (and even then don't trust that they'll do what is needed for third-party users). If you're not the majority use case, Google don't care.

The set of tasks I follow (that are all related to making the Tasks API
complete relative to the Tasks UI) have all been assigned. I'm cautiously
excited this means this product is getting some attention. That comes with
the fear that Google is going to go in some new product direction with it
that renders it unusable to those of us who have built on top of it -- or
worse -- deprecate it (as they do so many products). I really wish there
was more communication and partnership with developers.

Dear Google team,
your Tasks functionality is widely used, but lacks some features, that's why we use third-party software to create/update/view our google tasks. SO could you please update your API as requested above?
(I'd rather ask to add all the functions, including a Kanban board, into the Google Tasks, but if you couldn't add time to API for 9 years, can I hope for this sooner?......:))
