I wanted to extract the first and last date of a filtered ee.ImageCollection. so what I did is to extract all the "time_start value as a list and I wanted to extrat the first and last item. as this:

collection = (
    ee.ImageCollection("LANDSAT/LC08/C01/T1_TOA")
    .filterBounds(ee.Geometry.Point(-122.262, 37.8719))
    .filterDate("2014-01-01", "2014-12-31")
)

time_list = collection.aggregate_array("system:time_start")
start = time_list.sort().first()
end = time_list.sort().get(time_list.size())

Would it be possible to add extra sorting parameter to avoid the little hack to get the end value ? Something as simple as a "ascending" to align with the collection sort method would be more than sufficient.

and I would do:

collection = (
    ee.ImageCollection("LANDSAT/LC08/C01/T1_TOA")
    .filterBounds(ee.Geometry.Point(-122.262, 37.8719))
    .filterDate("2014-01-01", "2014-12-31")
)

time_list = collection.aggregate_array("system:time_start")
start = time_list.sort().first()
end = time_list.sort(ascending=False).first()
