Running Compose 1.2.0 and hit this regularly with a few views. The 1.dp of padding trick works, but shouldn't be necessary. In an app with a lot of rounded corners with strokes, I've resorted to wrapping background, border, and the extra padding into a single modifier used everywhere.

Can easily be reproducible with a Box.

Even just the old version of night mode that was in the 7.0 previews will be adequate, there is no reason to remove the feature when it seemingly worked. If you feel it is not stable enough for public release at least add it to developer options.

You've got to be kidding me? Yeah, we know it's a hack, and nobody likes hacks, but it provides a function that *thousands of people rely on*, for christs sake! Yeah, we know it's a hack, but apparently you can't be bothered to/aren't competent enough to fix it, so why not, oh I don't know, just *leave it be* until you figure out a way to properly implement this same function?? Jesus Christ the arrogance from the devs is unbelievable...

I think that the worst part of this issue is that the official answer is that "the hardware does not support night mode" even though all of us were using the night mode just a few weeks ago and it was working like a charm. I suggest changing the official answer to "we want all of you to pay for the new made-by-google phones because we already forgot about the previous models which will be unsupported soon". At least that would be honest.

Sorry to bomb this thread again but the lack of response from Google is extremely disappointing. Labeling this as Future Release is not a solution we want now.
Let's look at Apple iPhone 5S, a phone released on Sep 2013, received exactly the same function, Night Shift, with the iOS 9.3 update on Mar 2016, that's a 2.5 years old device back then.
And now, Google REMOVED night mode on Oct 2016, from these one year old devices. This is just mind boggling.
Night mode is a hidden function under the System UI Tuner anyway, so most of the users are Android enthusiasts and we don't mind a buggy implementation of it. Please re-enable the old OpenGL implementation and just leave it as is.
Don't tell me about the cliche that I can root my phone and bla bla bla. You know hell will break loose with Safety Net. Why should I give up Android Pay for a function that I'm supposed to have? If you are telling us to root just for night mode, then please provide an alternative for us to bypass Safety Net to use Android Pay.
Well, I brought the 5X as a Christmas gift last year. I genuinely thought it's better than the iPhone back then. Last Christmas I gave you my heart, but the very next year, you gave it away, and this year to save me from tears, I'll give it to someone special?
Come on Google, please do the right thing and give everyone here a happy holidays.

Google is so ridiculous. They LOVE removing features for no good reason at all. Time-lapse anybody? One day the camera app was updated and the feature gone. Now Night Mode? Seriously? se...@gmail.com <se...@gmail.com> #59
I know this is not what anyone wants to hear, but Night mode it's probably not coming back. In the past I had used Twilight Pro - Last night, playing with it again, I noticed that you can add it to your Notification Tiles. Set settings to "Always" at about 2500-3000K (similar to Google's Night Mode temp, the default 1500K is too red in comparison), then click on Hide all Notifications and you will have a very similar experience, on/off with tiles. Not as good as Native but as good as it's going to get.
ca...@gmail.com <ca...@gmail.com> #60
+Sergio Yes, thanks for the tip. I've been using Twilight ever since I updated to 7.1.1 and have setup the quick settings tile and the "hide notifications" options already. I'll try the different temperatures you recommended and see if it's any similar to Google's Night Mode. Thanks.

ab...@gmail.com <ab...@gmail.com> #70
It seems "Future release" is just an elegant way to kick it away after the support window. I have read many times that people should not post here this type of comments as it spams thousands of developers. Unfortunately, it is the only way somebody will pay attention to this issue. People should report this problem constantly until a solution is proposed.

To all of you who are on 7.1.1: Downgrade! I'm on 7.0 just for this feature and i really don't care to use any other version without it. See here the factory images: https://developers.google.com/android/images . Also, you can disable notifications for google play services to remove the anoying update notice.
sh...@gmail.com <sh...@gmail.com> #74
Well it seems there is still no sign of night mode/night light in the Android "O" developer preview and I would have thought if it was to be included it would be there already so it can be fully tested?
So if it doesn't make it into "O" then what is the "FutureRelease" supposed to be?
Since "O" will be the last feature release for 5X/6P I'm thinking the status was just changed to shut people up in the hope they would forget about it?

Hi!
I've been subscribed to this bug for a while now and we've really gotten
nowhere. So far, the issue has been "fixed" in another branch or whatever.
We haven't gotten any replies from any Google employees about if this will
be applied to the 5x and 6p and such. I personally don't use my phone that
much at night anymore because it's blinding.
Has there been any changes and such yet?

yea i hate to disturb everyone with this reply, but the last word from google was that this would be available in a future update. as of now we have the totally awesome(but literally useless) pull-down drawer via fingerprint scanner, but not Night-Light. it's kind of ridiculous.
sk...@gmail.com <sk...@gmail.com> #93
Yeah setting it as future release was fine if that ment it would really be implemented, but seeing as Android O has entered DP2 and it isnt there yet, and we all know that its an really easyish fix, it's not even just kind of, its' simply just ridiculous.

I haven't had a security update in months because this feature is that
important to me.

Was this added in 8.0 DP3?
Maybe they're sitting this one out hoping that most 5X die the seemingly inevitable LG-bootloop-death.

Put the bloody accessibility features like Night Mode and Material Dark back into all builds, Google, and leave them the hell alone. Yes, this IS enough to make me not buy a Nexus if you keep screwing with it. Usability and customizability is the reason we're here instead of on Apple. The ability to use your devices even if the user has light sensitivity or migraines is vital.
di...@gmail.com <di...@gmail.com> #98
Why does this issue seem fixed?!?! We still do not have our night mode, do we?!?
ma...@gmail.com <ma...@gmail.com> #99
Developer Preview 4, Nexus 6P, no Night Light...
al...@gmail.com <al...@gmail.com> #100
Confirmed
se...@gmail.com <se...@gmail.com> #101
This feature is on my work iPhone... I find myself using it more than my Nexus nowadays.
fa...@gmail.com <fa...@gmail.com> #102
I use it because it doubles the time of.my battery plus the screen looks so much better, we need back at least I really do
se...@gmail.com <se...@gmail.com> #103
Android 8.0 "Oreo" is out - Is Night Mode still missing for Nexus phones?
al...@gmail.com <al...@gmail.com> #104
Oh come on! Really?
me...@evaldez.com <me...@evaldez.com> #105
Status fixed? Where is it then?
cm...@gmail.com <cm...@gmail.com> #106
Won't be buying another Google phone because of this.
se...@gmail.com <se...@gmail.com> #107
Confirmed on reddit Night Mode is not available. Also, to put a cherry on top, the menus, notification bars and a lot of the GUI is bright white now! Eyes will burn at night! Thanks, Google!
I'm done with Android.
