What type of Android issue is this?

What steps would let us observe this issue?

1. Allow the screen to fall asleep but make sure the AOD is on. This might work if you manually turn off the screen but that hasn't worked for me
2. I have the funky clock that's made of corners and straight lines
3. Turn off the screen so that it sits on the AOD and then when the time changes whichever number changes should show the colored version
4. I think the best way to find this but is to let the display out itself to sleep and it turns the AOD on

What did you expect to happen?
I expected the AOD clock to be a white outline like it is supposed to be

What actually happened?
A single number showed up with Material theming

What was the effect of this issue on your device usage, such as lost time or work?
None - device worked normally

Additional comments
I don't think it affects much but it'll drain a teeny tiny bit more battery if it's coloring a number
