This is a critical feature and I'd be very disappointed to see this capability gone.
If this is indeed scheduled to be removed, I highly encourage Google to implement a compromise, like mandating a keyguard unlock to start this.

We have reviewed this request and added the relevant permissions back to Shell for Android 16.
However, the primary purpose of Shell holding these permissions is testing. This is an unsupported usage and may break again in the future without notice.

However, it seems this feature is broken in Android 15 QPR2 Beta 1 (
Shell:android.permission.CREATE_VIRTUAL_DEVICEandroid.permission.ADD_TRUSTED_DISPLAYandroid.permission.ADD_ALWAYS_UNLOCKED_DISPLAYI'd like to keep the possibility to mirror virtual display in future Android versions. Is there a solution?
