This could be looked as 2 separate bugs:
-
Unexpected random downgrade to 2.4ghz
-
Android not trying automatic periodic upgrade to 5ghz once it's connected to 2.4ghz
The latter is more problematic.

The signal strength between 2.4 and 5 GHz is different, the former will naturally have longer reach.
I see -45 dBm on 5ghz and -34 dBm on 2.4ghz and both are fluctuating a bit even though devices remain stationary.
Perhaps sometimes 5ghz dips low enough to trigger switch to 2ghz?

It looks like you are raising an issue as an Android user, rather than an Android Open Source Developer.

Unfortunately it's hard to get through "Have you tried restarting your device?" Google support script loop.
If it's of any help I can connect adb and gather logs but the problem takes long time (days) to manifest so I would need some way of collecting it post mortem.
Description
This sometimes happens with phones but is less of an issue there as you leave home and get back it fixes itself on automatic reconnect. Since Google TV is stationary the connection remains downgraded until manually fixed.
The signal strength is excellent and Google TV is few meters from Google Nest WiFi Pro so the connection downgrade is truly random/unexpected too but since in general this also affects other devices I'm assuming it's a generic Android bug.
