The Nexus 5 Play Store image for 8.1 (Oreo) - API 27 on emulator 27.1.9-4592662 (latest canary) does not allow Google Maps API to render. Running a Nexus 5 Play Store image from 7.0 (Nougat) - API 24 works fine. To be clear this is about the maps API (library com.google.android.gms:play-services-maps) not the Google Maps app. The app works fine in the image.

I experience the same on desktop (Ubuntu+NVidia GF-980 propriatery drivers) as on laptop (macOS with Intel Iris Pro).

Emulator Version (Emulator--> Extended Controls--> Emulator Version): 27.1.9-4592662

HAXM / KVM Version: 4.13.0-32-generic Ubuntu 17.10 or HAXM 6.2.1 on macOS

Android SDK Tools: (Canary) 26.1.1
Host Operating System: Ubuntu 17.10 or macOS High Sierria
CPU Manufacturer: Linux with Intel i7 with Nvidia graphics or Intel i7 with Iris Pro graphics

Hi, thanks for the report. This is an issue in the emulator system image actually; the guest system is not detecting host OpenGL support properly. We have just released new API 27 Google APIs images where the issue should be fixed, but we have not released new API 27 Google Play Store images yet.

Just downloaded most recent published Google API's with 8.1 and it hasnt new enough API for Play Services 11.8.0 maps api. Maybe the new API 27 Google APIs images haven't wasnt use by my AS version. Although seens a 6 feb build (

ro.build.id=OSM1.180201.007, ro.build.date=Tue Feb 6 00:56:55 UTC 2018).

I'll try an older commit of my app with older play services version.

Had to roll back a few updates of play services and on 11.4.2 found a match with the February Google API's 8.1. And indeed I that image has a workin0 OpenGL Maps API.

Just got the new revision of the API 27-Play image and the Map API renders beautifully. Thanks for the quick fix!
