What would you like to see us add to this API?

Google maps has the nice feature for preparing and saving routes, along with other map "stuff". I am writing an application where I would like to display the route saved in MyMaps. But to do that now requires a hack.

I would like an API that would allow my application to access the list of saved maps, returning to me the map name and the network link. This would allow me to use a KmlLayer to bring the map into my application.

Of course, some sort of input parameters specifying user name and (perhaps) password would be needed in order to determine WHO'S MyMaps to access. That would be a reasonable requirement.

We did have an API that could access MyMaps. Unfortunately it has been deprecated. Please read the announcement for more information:

MyMaps API would be great.
I would use it for Zone management, in My Maps you can easily draw polygons.
I would like to know in which polygon a certain GPS position is.
i.e. I send a request with my coordinates, and MyMaps returns in which of my polygon(s) the point is.

This would be an excellent tool for My Maps. I have a site at

http://www.mapchannels.com which provides tools to embed My Maps with a range of custom options. However some of the recent changes in the KML generated by My Maps cause problems such as not being able to access the marker images and some place description data. Having an API to provide this data would help a lot and make possible extra features such as editing the My Maps data from a user-created map.

I'm trying to do something similar, use or embed My Maps with custom options where users/visitors to the website would be able to see a map of already listed properties and to upload a picture of new a property, with the location of the specific property and a short description if any that would be added to the existing map, and if they want to buy the dataset of properties listed in a specific location.
Similar to what I have done in an example using wordpress:

So I want to skip the Picassa intermediary, and create the option for the user/visitor to take a picture with his phone, and upload that picture and location to the website.

In addition to querying your maps saved to MyMaps, it would be great if the API included the ability to save a dynamic custom map to MyMaps for future use. I have an application for teachers that allows them to login using their Google Accounts (OAuth2) and create a custom map for their classroom. Currently, there is no way for them to save that to their Google Account.

My Maps would be a useful addition to the data library for the Maps API. Before it was deprecated, I used the Map Engine Data layer in conjunction with the API to load data. It was a very simple json file to parse. While I can load a My Map via KML url, the Maps Engine data layer allowed students easy control of turning On/Off layers, handling infoWindows, etc. For prioritizing going forward...here is an old 2 year old youtube on how loading a former MapsGallery data, created and served via the old Maps Engine, worked in an educational setting.

I would like to add my 2 cents to this. There used to be Maps Data API which used to handle programmatic access to My Maps.
Now it's a different product produced from Maps Engine, a discontinued enterprise product by Google which also used to have an API.
There's definitely an internal API for it already, which Google apps like Maps and My Maps use to create/edit those things.

My Maps API would allow a big range of use cases where you want to share custom geo data so people can view it on desktop and mobile using Google Maps. I've seen many custom maps that were created once, had interesting data but then they were never updated. If you could wire them to a data source there would be much more value in using these.

I'd like to be able to programmatically create and share a my maps map. Currently I am gathering data from users via a google form then sharing that data back with those who contribute via my maps. The last step of updating the map and sharing it I have to do manually. I would like to automate it. Even having my maps live update from a google spreadsheet would be a step forward.

I've got a CSV document with locations, and I figured that I can't import it. Ok, fine. I thought by default that there's an API to do it programmatically before you implement CSV import in MyMaps, considering how open are your APIs in regards to different Google apps. Seriously, add it, this is ridiculous. Or, someone from staff can help me out with 1000+ pins that I need on my shared drive? .. Didn't think so, it's a waste of time.

EDIT: Never mind, realized you can create on a new layer, so I'm covered. Still, you need programatic API support! :D

I use Google maps. Have a tomtom live and a Garmin walking GPS. Today I have to put my favourites in three times. I'd like to be able to sync with Google in both directions ... The read only REST API is insufficient got my needs. So +1 !!!

I'm particularly interested in the ability to customize symbology based on a feature's attributes, query existing data and focus on search results, access a data grid, toggle layers on/off through a table of contents and connect to various OGC data sources such as WMS and WFS.

* Main thing I'm looking for is the ability to create a saved list with a new icon. Toggling them off and on is easy, but custom lists all have the same icon
* The API should let you create custom lists, add/remove/update new items from lists
* MyMaps is great for creating a travel map, but it doesn't integrate well and has extra steps to manage. With lists in maps I can see a place is saved and what category of list I have it in when viewing the venues info. With MyMaps you have to open it as its own thing and can't get the regular maps info at the same time.
* Really you need to integrate MyMaps better so there more like lists and more seamless, then add a API for full CRUD operations on those lists/maps

Its a shame that such a great service exists but is unusable via an API - its fairly easy to replicate in a few hours with Leaflet but would have been nice to be able to programatically update a map for some of my clients. No problems though we just abandoned My Maps and use a custom solution open source instead since all that was needed was to plonk some points from a Google sheet on a map and have them updated periodically.

I created a questionnaire in Google Forms. The answers are saved in a sheet in Google Drive. The sheet is the source for my MyMaps map.
All the components are there in the wonderful services Google is offering.
Only thing missing is the ability of MyMaps to read the new added data form the sheet.
Please add this!

I was trying to make my Google MyMap fullscreen for my Wix site so it led me to learning a bit about API. I think this is where the roadblock ends for me lol. If anyone has any info on how to make this work, please reply. I'll check back every so often.

As a non-profit software, creating a platform for searching for useful resources provided by volunteers near them, it would be great to have My Maps where the volunteers can mark their areas on the map and consumers of the data can search for the closest available resource on the basis of their geolocation.

I really was suprised that this cant be done from nowhere of the almighty Google APIs.

My maps and my places are such a nice feature, but they are borderline unusable on a desktop computer, when you want to use it for more than labeling you families home or your workplace or like a little handful of places like your 5 top restaurants.

Me and some of my travelling friends use this SO often, that I wanted to create a web app for use, but no way to access it means we have to go a complicated way over KML files and sometimes Google Earth Pro instead of being able to use it all from Google Maps.
